I'm Melissa, an educator, preacher, and wellness coach - I'm so happy you found your way here. I provide wellness coaching and group fitness instruction to women who want to restore their relationships with God and their bodies. If it's been a long time since you've taken care of yourself or engaged in devotional time with God, you're in the right place!
As a Zumba Fitness instructor I focus on designing dance fitness workouts choreographed to God-praising Afrobeats, Bachata, Merengue, Soca and Salsa music. My approach to faith & fitness recognizes that we can workout and worship at the same time. My passion for dance fitness opened the door for me to be more intentional about eating whole foods, leading me to become a nutrition coach. Using my signature coaching program coupled with my experience teaching adults and using transformational coaching strategies, I support clients in developing sustainable healthy eating habits.
After working from home for nearly two years, transitioning back to the office was tough on my body. Waking up earlier meant I was back to rushing in the morning to get out of the house. Instead of making a well-rounded breakfast, I fell into a trap of buying donuts or croissants for breakfast on the go.
I found myself hitting the snooze button several times before dragging myself out of bed on cold winter mornings.
I was in a rut!
I was waking up so early to get back into the office that my 30-minute daily walks were quickly forgotten.
While I could read the Bible or listen to worship music on my way to work, I also sacrificed that quiet devotional time in the morning reading and writing to plan out my day with God.
And I was feeling it.
My motivation was low and I even felt spiritually disconnected. I was out of breath walking up four flights of stairs to catch the subway every morning. Emotionally I felt in a constant state of melancholy.
I knew it was time for a change, so I jumped back into my Zumba Fitness workouts and recommitted to eating more nutritious meals. I work out a few days a week, get more movement in throughout my day, and make different food choices aligned to my goals.
I feel so much better! I have more energy during the day and can wake up early to stick to my routine.
And as a Zumba Fitness instructor, I'm focused on developing more choreography to dance to Christian Salsa, Merengue, Afrobeats, Bachata and Soca. That helps me workout and worship at the same time!
This experience drove me to create Inner Housekeeping - an approach to health and wellness that recognizes that our bodies are temples and that we serve God when we take care of ourselves.
Through this experience I created this Faith & Fitness Journal that provides daily scripture to reflect on, and dedicated space to communicate with God as well as plan your meals and daily activity. I hope that it's as helpful to you as it has been to me!
